Dr. Robert Hoye joined the lab in March 2015. He is interested in accelerating the discovery of new optoelectronic materials by developing materials screening processes. He studied Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Auckland in New Zealand (BE(Hons), 2012), before gaining his PhD in Materials Science at the University of Cambridge (2015). During his PhD, Robert used a custom-made atmospheric pressure spatial atomic layer deposition (AP-SALD) system to ‘print’ thin films of metal oxides. He tuned the electron-affinity of AP-SALD ZnO through Mg incorporation and used this material to improve the performance of hybrid perovskite LEDs, as well as quantum dot and cuprous oxide solar cells.
