Ian Mathews

Ian joined the lab in July 2017 as a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow. His research focuses on developing new solar cell materials and architectures for tandem solar cells and photovoltaic cell performance under low light conditions in buildings. He received a B.Eng. in Civil & Environmental Engineering in 2006 and his Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2014 both from University College Cork, Ireland. He also obtained an M.Sc. in Renewable Energy Systems from Loughborough University in 2009. After his PhD he worked for two years at Bell Labs and one year investigating the potential to commercialize his research through his own startup in Silicon Valley.
